Cannon Beach (mostly)

Here are some pictures of the first trip to Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, an upper-class artists colony to the south of Seaside. We had exceptionally low tides with drew even more people to the beach than usual. Pacific City and Bandon both have haystack rocks which are basaltic remnants of the mainland that have withstood the erosion of the ocean.

The famous Haystack Rock.

Docents set up educational signs, have literature available, and set up telescopes so we can see the nesting birds on the rocks. The common murre and the Stellar sea lion can often be seen.

Tidepools with sea anemones and starfish can be seen when the usually submerged sea floor is exposed during the low tides.

Here we have three submerged representatives of the rare species commonly called tweenagers. After being exposed to too much cold water they prefer to spend their time in their warm habitat especially if snacks are readily available.

Jazmine and Anna are attempting to dam the little stream while Ryan watches.

It isn't that funny Ryan. They are just girls!

Ryan has drawn a thunderbird in the sand.

What a cute smile, Ryder!

This species is known as the book worm. They escape reality by submerging themselves in romance novels.

DeWayne and Erica.

Baby Chantrell

Baby Brenna

A very protective father (Barry)

Ryan, Jazmine, Anna, Erica, Michelle, and Barry

Strollers, bikes, wheelchairs (mine) are found among the people inhabiting the beach.

Ryder with his bike and little brother Racer following behind. Where is his bike?

Three insane specimens of homo sapiens.

And home to tent city in the Bowman's back yard.

Yes---five tents two of which were not used because some kids decided to sleep inside where it was warm and not scary.

Very cute mom. I laughed at the comments about the different species of humans and what they do. You are very clever and so smart. You tell a very educated and informative story in your blog. I didn't know half of the stuff that you wrote about the Haystack Rock. Great pictures of everyone and great comments. I'm so happy that you are working so hard on your blog. It is fantastic to see your efforts. Love you, Shelly

I echo Michelle, very clever indeed. I felt like I was back in 10th grade in my oceanography class, you were the best teacher I ever had, I really learned alot, and loved our field trips to the Mediterranian Sea. It is good to have you back blogging, you are very funny. We love you.

Mom, you are so hilarious and creative. Only you could think of something that cute. I can just see you writting and giggling to yourself with pleasure at your own creative genius! I love your photos, I stole a bunch to keep and treasure in my July folder because even if I wasn't there for part of the festivities, after seeing so many photos of the same event, I almost feel like I was there! Love you so much, Jenn
