High Winds

The top snapped off our neighbor's tree.

Our table blew off the deck.

Basketball hoop blew over.

Three trees in our side yard--domino effect.

Another tree, but caught half-way down by another tree.

Our trampoline is half-way up the hill.

High winds with gusts measured at 84 mph hit the coast yesterday and last night. We lost power about 3 am Monday until 3 am this morning--24 hours without electricity or our furnace.
It got pretty cold by late that afternoon when Tiffany with the help of our neighbor finally got the generator hooked up (low temperatures last night were in the low 40's). We bought it last year after the November 2006 windstorm, but DeWayne never set it up despite all my nagging. Tiffany had to go buy gas and a 100 foot cord and finally got a space heater, my small refrigerator, and my electric bed hooked up. She also got the refrigerator, a microwave and a heater for their bedroom connected downstairs. I did without lights, my stair lift, and my electric lift chair. I understand an electrician can hook it up to the electric outlet box and furnace so the whole house will operate as usual but it is $500-1000 to do so. The gas fireplace in the living room helped very little--not a good source of heat. Go to the www.dailyastorian.com to read about the storm. (the Monday, Nov. 12, 2007 issue) Trees are down all over the place.

That was a pretty fierce storm that you made it through. Especially without Dad there to help out. Good thing Tiffy was there to help you, Mom. I remember losing power and thinking that our apartment windows were going to crash in with the violent 90 miles an hour winds. Pretty scary in the winter there. Hope you stay warm and dry and everything goes back to normal.
