A Visit to Ft. Clatsop and more family photos

Our last "event" was visiting Ft. Clatsop. Michelle and Barry were in Eugene, so DeWayne and I took Jazmine, Ryan and Rhiannon to visit the fort which is a replica of the fort where Lewis and Clark wintered from 1805-1806 during their trip to the Pacific Ocean from St. Louis, Missouri.

Rhiannon, Jazmine and Ryan.

This photo was taken by the reporter from the newspaper, The Astorian, and was part of the front page article commemorating the dog called "Seaman" who accompanied the expedition.

Jazmine is modeling a coonskin cap.

Rhiannon has on a buckskin jacket and has a powder horn and pouch around her neck.

A crowd waiting for the lecture and demonstration of a musket.

The lecturer teaches U.S. History during the winter and works at the fort during the summer. I think he said he had been doing it for 15 or more years.

A very loud "bang."

Jazmine is ahead in the tree hugging contest.

Wow! I wish we had more old growth forests left. I hate logging.

Rhiannon on the path down to the river with a stuffed animal on each shoulder.

The same place from the photo above only I am at the end of the bridge.

Ryan is standing where I took the picture from.

Pretty pose, Rhiannon.

The four of us.

What a cute smile (on both of them)

Nice pictures of Ft. Clatsop and the kids. I will have to visit there sometime. Jaz and Ryan were so excited that they were in the newspaper with their picture and quotes. What a cool experience. Your picture of all of us turned out nice. But I still don't have you and dad holding both the babies by yourself. Next visit I won't forget.

What did they have their names in the paper for and which paper? I would like to visit there too, maybe next time.

This is in answer to Debbie's question. We visited on the day at Ft. Clatsop set aside to celebrate the Newfoundland dog who traveled with the expedition and who Captain Meriwether Lewis had purchased for $20--a lot of money in those days! They had people who owned that kind of dog bring them to the fort for guests to pet. The reporter saw Jaz and Ryan petting one and interviewed them and had his photographer take a photo and put their picture in the paper.
