We Go To The Dentist

We headed south on Hwy 101 through the tunnel ahead.

DeWayne, Michelle and I headed for Lincoln City on a foggy Friday morning last week, Sept. 12. Michelle broke off a piece of a tooth, and I went to get my new porcelain jackets on my bottom front teeth.

I think I get better, more interesting photos on days like this than on days that are totally clear.

The view from Neah-Kah-Nie Mt. is certainly different with a fogbank hiding most of the coastline.

A view of the Nehalem river.

Wheeler off in the distance across the Nehalem River.

This sign shows the one and only thing you can do in Wheeler---fish.

The Nehalem river forms a bay in Wheeler. My step-father used to fish theNehalem river as well as the Columbia river and Dillingham Bay in Alaska. He would bring home salmon, sturgeon and smelt (sort of like a small trout, but salt-water).

Part of Nehalem Bay.

The three "Graces" in Barview, 2 miles north of Garibaldi.

Part of the Coast Guard Station. This was here in the 1940's so I don't know if they still use this.

Hwy. 101 is the main street of Garibaldi as it is for all the little coast towns. The old mill smokestack is straight ahead.

Tillamook Bay hiding in the fog.

Looking back at Garibaldi with lowering clouds on the mountains.

Bales of hay south of Tillamook. I think the old haystacks were much more picturesque. These bales look like giant marshmallows!

Hey! We're here at the dental clinic in Lincoln City.

I'm first.

Michelle's turn.

You can watch the birds out of the ceiling to floor windows in the operatory. This is a Stellar Bluejay.

They eat the food out of the bird feeder but they love peanuts.

Going down the hill to show Michelle a closeup of Devil's Lake.

A public boat dock.

Michelle took this photo of two houses across the lake.

A statue of Abraham Lincoln reading a book while he rides his horse.

This is the recreation center where DeWayne goes to work out in the gym and to swim in the pool.

We decided to stop at the artichoke country store on our way home.

It was very picturesque.

This is the front of the store.

Looking out the back door into the green house.

DeWayne went out to take picures of the flowers because it wasn't wheelchair accessible.

Inside the green house.

This is one of the pictures he took.

Michelle shopping.

Out in front.

Baby Chantrell is named after this mushroom.

We stopped at the cheese factory in Tillamook for cheese curds and ice cream cones.

Michelle! Where is your ice cream???

The Coast Gaurd Station in Garibaldi. This was here when we moved here in 1945. It has always been kept in perfect condition.

And the famous G on the hill. I hiked there once when I was about 13-14 with other kids. We heard rustling sounds and thought it was a bear and ran down the hill as fast as we could go!

The town of Nehalem on the Nehalem river.

Now this is what the view is supposed to look like!

Heading home down Neah-Kah-Nie Mt.

Through the tunnel to Arch Cape, Cannon Beach, Seaside, Gearhart, and HOME! Most of the photos of scenery along the highway were taken from a moving car!

Mom you had so much fun on your trip to Lincon city. I bet Shelly loved having you and Dad both to herself for the day. Dad did a great job on his flower photograph. It is cool that he is still 'game' for all your fun adventures and requests. I love your bird picts and it is so cute how, no matter how many times you go on this trip and even post the same exact photos, you always have a little something new to say about them. Love ya, Jenn

I really enjoyed your moving documentary of Wheeler and the pictues of Dad working on you both. I don't think I have any pictures of Dad working, that is neat to keep and to show all the kids and great grand kids. Thanks.

That was a fun trip with just you and Dad. I felt guilty leaving the babies with Barry all day. My filling in my tooth turned out great. Dad is the best dentist. I liked all the places that we stopped at too. My ice cream was gone too soon...I wanted more!! The photos you took of me were pretty good. I liked how you put the photos on your blog and told a story of our trip there and back.
